Plant Source
Coconut powder comes from the fresh juice of green coconuts.
[Main Varieties] Coconut trees are monocotyledons, generally divided into tall varieties, which are cross-pollinating, and dwarf varieties, which are self-pollinating.
[Plant Characteristics] Coconuts are plants of the palm family and genus Cocos. The trees are tall, resembling palm trees, growing 15-30 meters tall, with thick, ringed trunks that bulge at the base and often have clusters of small roots. The leaves are feather-shaped, 3-4 meters long. The inflorescences are axillary, 1.5-2 meters long, and highly branched; sepals are broad and round, about 2.5 cm wide, and the petals resemble the sepals but are smaller. The fruit is ovoid or nearly spherical, about 15-25 cm long, with a thin outer skin, thick fibrous middle skin, and a hard woody inner skin. Flowering and fruiting mainly occur in the autumn.
[Growth Environment] Coconuts are tropical crops, best grown in hot, rainy, low-altitude, humid areas with optimal temperatures of 26-27°C and average annual temperatures above 24-25°C. They thrive with little temperature variation, no frost, abundant sunshine, and annual rainfall of 1500-2000 mm, distributed evenly throughout the year.
[Distribution Range] Coconuts are found from Indonesia to the Pacific islands and Southeast Asia. They mainly grow between 23°S and 23°N, with most located in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and tropical coastal areas. Major production regions include Sri Lanka, Malaysia, India, and the Philippines. In China, coconuts are grown in tropical regions such as Hainan Province, Taiwan, southern Yunnan, southern Guangdong, and the Leizhou Peninsula, with Hainan Province accounting for 99% of China’s total cultivation area.
