Plant Source—Cantaloupe
Cantaloupe (Latin name: Cucumis melo var. saccharinus) is a variety of sweet melon. Also known as snow melon or tribute melon, it is a high-quality sweet melon variety, round or oval in shape, and is notably produced in Xinjiang. Known for its sweet taste, cantaloupe is sometimes mistakenly written as "honey melon." Cantaloupes come in two types: netted and smooth-skinned. They are categorized by maturity into early, summer (mid-season), and winter (late-season) varieties. Different cantaloupe varieties vary in shape, color, and skin texture. Notable varieties include Red Heart Crisp, Black Eyebrow Honey Extreme Sweet (with dark stripes on the rind), and others. Cantaloupes are nutritious, containing 4.6%-15.8% sugars, 2.6%-6.7% fiber, along with malic acid, pectin, vitamins A, B, C, niacin, calcium, phosphorus, and iron. They are typically eaten fresh or used in salads and are also a good choice for making cantaloupe powder.
